Design and Detailing with Concrete Kerbs,
Channels and Similar Products
Kerbs, channels and edgings are available
in various different traditional and non-traditional profiles,
manufactured to the requirements of the British Standard,
BS EN 1340: 2003. This first download offers guidance on designing
layouts and achieving optimum efficiency while avoiding the need
to cut products.
In response to concerns about the impact of dust generation resulting from cutting building materials on site, Interpave has produced guidance for precast concrete paving products following discussion with the Health and Safety Executive. The Interpave guidelines help eliminate health hazards when installing precast concrete paving blocks, flags and kerbs, either by removing the need to cut concrete products or by recommending safer cutting practices and equipment.
A video has also been produced on safe cutting by the Health and Safety Executive, which can be viewed here. Please note that the hand-held power saw techniques shown in the video apply to kerbs and larger flags but are not appropriate for small element flags or paving blocks.
Interpave has also been actively involved with the Health and Safety Executive’s initiative to reduce respiratory disease. Interpave manufacturer members offer a range of kerb solutions to the HSE requirement for a hierarchical ‘AMC’ approach -

This approach is clearly demonstrated in a Case Study which can be downloaded below.
